Oakland California . . . 10-33, Officer Down X4

News Update = The fourth Officer is now considered brain dead and is on life support pending organ donation decisions. 3:03PM 23 Mar 2009

On the news today.

Three Oakland Police Officers lost their lives in the line of duty.

A fourth officer, as I write this, is still fighting for his life.

One individual caused these deaths.

I ask that all who read these words to please say a prayer for these officers families.

The thin blue line still holds strong and will not break.

What a sad day for law enforcement. These guys and their families are in my thoughts. I think I heard there was another officer killed somewhere else yesterday as well.

The system kills 5.

With the No Tolerance policy - a man, to meet his parole, was ordered by the court that he must have a job. No job - go back to jail.

There is no job in a tight market for an ex-con. He is going to jail on his next parole meeting.

He will die before he will go to jail.

He does not attend his parole meeting.

No bond warrant for his arrest is issued.

Zero tolerance.

Driving around, maybe looking for work, maybe out buying groceries...whatever...

Two cops driving around run his plates - arrest warrant noted.

They pull him over. He knows he is going to jail....

5 men dead.

BF;

There is no such thing as "ROUTINE" police work. If a no bail warrant is issued, and a traffic cop runs the plate and sees that, then a procedure known as a felony car stop is done. This was not done in this case because what these two motor officers did was not because of the warrant issued, it was because of a traffic violation. Traffic officers normally do not run plates until the stop has been made.
There will be a lot of questions asked of a lot of Oakland police officers, and there will be heads that roll. One thing that cars have advantage over motors is that cars now have computers which give instant results to plate q's.
Another hard look at how swat enters a residence will be scrutinized - again. Flash bangs were discontinued during my tenure as being dangerous and unecessary - something the "rank and file" disagreed with. Maybe now they will be brought back.
Police work has and never will be safe. There is no such thing as a perfect world . . .

Point is, if you give a man no options (from his point of view), bad things will always result.

The problem is with the system.
